Starr*: Your important comment arrived just as Tahirih’s Words of prophecy unfold in Iran (the clergy losing power) where She proclaims that:

The little tongue (epiglottis) of breath and voice will be cut out at the root of the pretentious shayk’s so their deception will be eradicated from the earth (Farsi translation of the Morn of Guidance, 3rd stanza, not shown in English translations). Also, in that poem She writes that “with the power of equality injustice will evaporate, and with the power of heart-thinking and knowledge ignorance will be destroyed.

Regarding your statements re Buddhism, I would agree that it is a blessing to be living where enlightenment is simply enlightenment. However, Buddhism has suffered the patriarchal male domination causing little awareness of Tara, the female Buddha counterpart, which has limited the flow of Spirit, leaving the religion out of balance. This is why Tahirih closed the gate on all past religions and opened the gate to a universal cycle where the female and male are balanced and the people receive Divine Inspiration within through their connection with Source in the Oneness of creation.

Thanks for upholding the idea that spirituality should be about transcedence and liberation, including liberation from the oppressive, patriarchal aspects of the esoteric traditions. Tahirih’s subversion of oppression is an inspiration.

I find Buddhist ideas about the universality of spirit appealing because they are not burdened by hierarchy definitions and arguments about “who is a prophet” (and what kind of prophet, etc.).

In Buddhism, enlightenment is enlightenment. No artificial, false boundries exist that divide people into “prophets” and “non-prophets”.

Like all other areas of life, some people excel at transcendence, have great mystical talent, and are spiritual geniuses. Some appear at historical moments where great possibilities for social, economic and political paradigm shifts are possible. amd they crystalize the possibilities.

In the past, these people were called “prophets”, etc. Eventually an elaborate system was developed that ranked them. From what I can tell, at the beginning of the babi-bahai system, the belief structure was very open, dynamic, and supportive of creativity. Tahirih of course best exemplifies the creative, spiritual genius of that time. As institutionalization set in, the belief structure became rigid and orthodox. The “middle man scam” set in, and the religious leadership “meme” misappropriated the images and archetypes of spiritual liberation. All the dreary old categories were reimposed, albeit under “reformed” definitions.

In the ‘Commentary of the Quranic Verses of I was a Hidden Treasure’ by Abdu’l-baha Divine Knowledge and Divine Essence are said to be identical in reference to the Godhead. Also, from the same source it is explained when the Divine Essence wished to be known the Maid of Love manifested from that Unity. Because this translation has been made through the patriarchal lens I have changed the references to the Godhead to be gender neutral, which of course it is meant to be. It is important to keep in mind when reading the Tablet that when The Bab was penning revelation, Tahirih (‘The Word He utters [Dawenbreakers]) He writes “I am the Maid of Heaven begotten by the Spirit of Baha,” identifying that She is the Splendor/Glory of the Godhead. *Tahirih, as the Divine Voice of the Godhead, inaugurated a
new Universal Cycle for humanity through those She animated.

“The Kingdom belongeth to God, the Wise!”
and in which ever seeker obtained his or her desire,
every person, knowing God, attained blessings,
and every traveler in the way of God found the divine Right Path.

People all over the world are still very much moved by Tahirih (even though much of the information about Her has been suppressed, obsurred, and distorted). I think this is because, as She says:

“LIKE GABRIEL I AWAKEN SOULS”.

They seem to intuitively know on some level of awareness that Her Message of Oneness is permeating the world and beating in their own hearts.

In the case of this writer the play was being complimented for its iconoclastic nature so my comments do not lie in the criticsm category. Also, it should be noted that the Tahirih Path, as out layed in the book “Tahirih Thealogy, Female Cosmic Christ Spirit of the Age, Concealed no longer!”, is not based on Islam; but rather is all inclusive of the *continuous flow of revelation* through the aware heart of all people, as revealed in the Zeitgeist by Tahirih in 1844. As the director of The York Crucifixion and Artistic Director of Happy Dagger Theatre it is disconcerting that I am responding to criticism from people who have not yet seen the production. However, in true Easter style it seems, I must answer to scare-mongering and unsubstantiated claims. Knowing the company I keep, I proceed in good faith.

All criticism of the production falls roughly into five categories.

1) The timing of the production is insensitive – We are attempting an exploration of the Easter story, therefore I cannot think of a more apt time. If the suggestion is that people should not think about Easter during Easter, must only think about Easter in a certain way, or that only Christians may ponder love and sacrifice at this time of year, I wholeheartedly disagree.
2) The production seeks to mock Christians – It does not. Four soldiers complain, blaspheme and mock as scripted by the clergy in the 13th century. This production uses a theatrical devise (Bouffon theatre) to portray those soldiers as immortal, otherworldly beings that play nonsense games and ignore Jesus because Jesus refuses to join in. Instead of mocking in the usual mean fashion they do so with delight and exuberance.
3) The production is blasphemous – This criticism seems to come from the misconception that Jesus is being portrayed as a woman. This is not so. Jesus is being played by a woman. Actors are vehicles for the story and as such, can play any age, gender, and/or form that is required of them. The character of Jesus is continually referred to as ‘he’ by the other characters as written in the original script. As for the semi-nudity, the image of crucifixion is for me one of fragility, vulnerability, innocence, and strength. To clothe that image is to dilute its power beyond theatrical use.
4) Happy Dagger Theatre wouldn’t dare do a similar production surrounding an Islamic Holy Day or Season – Any examination of a story that comes from a culture other than my own, not based on any knowledge or experience of that culture, would of course be offensive. It is no more Happy Dagger Theatre’s right to explore Islam than to explore Indigenous culture. My culture is predominantly Christian. As an artist I claim my right to examine the culture that formed me and to do so publicly. The implicit slander in such criticism on peaceful Muslims however, is palpable.
5) The State Government of Western Australia funded the production – Every arts funding application goes through a rigorous selection process. Most major theatre work is budgeted between $100,000 and $300,000. Our $28,000 grant made up less than a quarter of the original budget for The York Crucifixion. The shortfall came from the donation of goods, services and labour by those in support of the project. Happy Dagger Theatre employed twelve professional West Australian artists, five of them for a period of seven weeks.

Happy Dagger Theatre is a growing company with a passion for theatre, a desire to push theatrical bounds, a wish to always improve as artists, and a heartfelt faith that entertaining is the least theatre should be. Many people (Christians and Atheists alike) have already decided what Easter means to them. For the rest of us, Happy Dagger Theatre proposed an opportunity to take a look at the story and perhaps ponder its meaning afresh. The York Crucifixion has certainly done that. However we never imagined it possible, without it ever being seen.

Many people have told me that they see the image of a chalice in this painting. This reflects the symbolism of light triumphant over darkness, a stream of light that nourishes life and love. The feminine reaches down to touch the masculine as the masculine reaches up to touch the feminine. Our masculine and feminine energies meet at the center, the chalice of the heart (the harmonizer).

The one who received this impression later elaborated on what she meant:

The Maid of Heaven lifts the Veil from the Face of the Manifestation of God: the Manifestation Soul of Baha’u'llah (as distinct from his human soul) is feminine, and Tahirih is the Remover of the Veil.

Tahirih stands at the center of the divine trinitarian circle of the Bab, Tahirih, and Baha’u'llah.

The discovery of the planet Neptune in 1846 anticipated the Martyrdom of Tahirih and the Revelation of the Maid of Heaven. The solar arc Ascendant in the natal horoscope of Baha’u'llah conjoined Neptune in 1852, at the time he received the Revelation of the Maid of Heaven.

Tahirih operated and operates on many levels of existence:

(1) The First and Ancient Point of Divine Creation – Divine Essence – Spirit of Baha or Glory of God;
(2)Most Great Spirit Intermediary or Maid of Heaven (animator and communicator to those who have been called (Prophets – and in today’s world those who have tuned the sacred spot in their hearts to the Light to receive Divine Knowledge;
(3) Manifestation in Her own right – Spirit made flesh;
(4) Letter of the Living in Babism as part of the Primal Point
(5) Mystical Poetess
(6) Woman of the day

Starr*: Tahirih was/is The Glory of God made flesh. Mirza Husayn Ali Nuri incorporated Her Writings and Teachings into the canon of Baha’i scripture with his own interpretations.

Starr*: If you mean now we see “The Splendor and Glory of God” through Tahirih I would agree.

Starr*: Many are called and few are chosen. The Maid of Heaven ‘animates’ those who have been chosen. Often they step up to the task, but falter through their own human limitations. The Bab faltered when he recanted, but then regained his spiritual connection and declared as not just the Gate but as the Promised One. Tahirih had told him she recognized him in this role and he fulfilled Her instruction. Azal was too filled with self importance and lost his connection to Her, as likewise did Mirza Husayn Ali Nuri in the end for he called for worship of the person of the Manifestation rather than God the All Knowing and said none can go directly to God, but only through him. Tahirih had already opened the Portal for direct connection.

When the form of God/ess is seen it seen in the form of a Female. However, this form is in Wholeness which comprises the male and female aspects of creation within ItSelf. It was only during the Fall that there was a separation where the male aspect came out of the Divine Female, thus beginning genders (separation and duality). Humanity has emerged from the Fall and is moving back to Wholeness.

Andrew: Tahirih stands at the center of the divine trinitarian circle of the Bab, Tahirih, and Baha’u'llah.

Starr*: Yes, She is the WORD (beginning of creation) and ANIMATED them with the Word and Spirit. All Manifestations are in potential with Her – many are called. She is the second coming of the Christ or Spirit. As the Most Great Spirit She opened the portal for a direct connection to Source for all those who turn their hearts to the Divine Essence, thus She, the Beloved, has many lovers who were all with Her in the beginning. However, they have the choice of fulfilling their missions or not when She communicates to them.

In 1952 Tahirih left this dimension, the same time that Mirza Husayn Ali Nuri had his vision of the Maid of Heaven in the Black Pit.

Starr*: Humankind had a choice and the Babi movement was almost successful, yet humankind failed to take the opportunity. Tahirih held firm to the mission for as long as possible, but started making plan B (lesser plan of the bahai faith) for the release of the breezes in preparation for the new day. In the Bab’s Will it says God can call back a Revelation at any point. Neptune’s discovery or appearance is most likely as a result of humankind’s negative acceptance of the Spirit.

Starr*: Today mystical and esoteric truths are being made known to us, for as Tahirih taught there is a ‘continuous flow of revelation available through the Spirit and the opened portal’. Together we are beginning to see clearly and all clouds are being dissipated.
